Angela Velenosi’s firm is showing some of Le Marche’s most improved wines in recent years. Located near the city of Ascoli Piceno, a little known architectural gem which is well worth a visit, the house specializes in Montepulciano-based wines. The current lineup presents three different versions. The 2001 Rosso Piceno Roggio del Filare is the pace-setter in the Rosso Piceno appellation, very lush and opulent in the jammy, chocolate-laced plum fruit of its nose, its ample and voluminous palate, superior depth and definition, and warm, firm finish. It will drink well for over a dozen more years.
