The vineyard for this atypical Tuscan red is the smallest on the estate; it is planted to 7000 vines of alberello-trained Syrah. The choice of this head-pruned method is unusual for the region; no trellis system is implemented, instead a short trunk is pruned to a few spurs arranged around the crown. The yield on each vine is 5 to 6 bunches, compared with 6 to 8 from their guyot-trained merlot and cabernet franc vines. Suisassi is fermented and macerated in oak barrels of two to three years of age.
