About

Distilleria Varnelli has been producing spirits since 1868 in the Marche region of Italy, in a particularly pleasant area on the slopes of Monti Sibillini. The business started by the founder Girolamo Varnelli, a keen herbalist who applied his knowledge and skills to create a natural remedy with antimalarial and fever reducing properties: Amaro Sibilla, first awarded the Gold Medal in 1909 at the International Exhibition in Turin. At the beginning of the 20th Century his son Antonio and the grandson Girolamo Jr. extended the line with additional specialties. Above all, they launched Varnelli Anice Secco as part of the Mediterranean culture of anise-based liquors, first awarded the Gold Medal in 1950 as “the best Italian dry anise”.

Throughout almost 150 years Distilleria Varnelli has constantly invested in commitment to the utmost quality, introducing new products, acquiring new markets and establishing itself as a respected player in the segment of premium spirits. Today, the Varnelli heirs still own 100% of the company and rigorously apply unchanged crafting processes and traditional recipes passed down through generations together with values related to identitary local roots.
