The first Bear Flag was created in 1846 by William L. Todd, a nephew of Mary Todd, the wife of Abraham Lincoln. The bear was designed to be a symbol of strength and unyielding resistance for the early settlers of California during their struggle for independence. In 1911, California adopted the bear image for its state flag. Today, Bear Print wines honor California’s rich viticultural history, interpreted through Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that are grown in two of the most beautiful and celebrated counties of the Central Coast.
